Overview

Internet trolls are created to start trouble on online blogs or forums. Broadly stated, this can be through posting contrary opinions, blatantly attacking the views presented on the site, or even pretending to misinterpret the content of the site. A troll might start for a number of reasons, but the response he/she/they get is entirely dependent on the methods they use to terrorize a website. It is incredibly helpful for a troll to initially create the appearance of being a cooperative user on a website, even if this includes excessively agreeing with the views of the site. The troll must be willing to put effort into learning the arguments of the website, so they can disagree in a way that does not immediately cause concern to the site's moderators. A troll cannot be effective if it is banned from the site before they garner any kind of response. He or she can appeal to particular users who often comment on the site (or disagree with them), rather than the specific material in the post. Creating friends allows a troll to have an army of allies, which then allows the troll to know that any post he or she makes will have a certain amount of back up.
